When my friend, Emily, asked me if I knew any good officiants in my area, it never occurred to me I would end up standing at her altar. But she heard a passion in my voice that I didn’t even know was there, and thus began my journey. I stood side-by-side with a dear friend who had created and officiated countless ceremonies over the preceding decades.
It was one of the most beautiful moments of my life up to that point - standing with the best view in the house of my gorgeous friend as she married her love. And I felt confident because Jim was leading the way. I just had to follow.
We had such a great time that Jim asked if he could put my name on as his co-officiant at a few area venues. I was honored and said, “Yes!” But three weeks later he would pass very suddenly. “That’s that,” I thought.
But at his memorial in one of those venues, the coordinator approached me asking if I was still going to officiate. I said, “I’m not official!”. Katya looked me straight in the eye and said, “Well, get official! You’re the only one who knows how he officiated such special ceremonies.”
And she was right! What Jim did was pure magic! And I was the only person besides his late wife that he had ever co-officiated with.
Despite my full-time job working for the county, I could not shake Katya’s command. Before I knew it (only two weeks later!) I was standing at a table with a banner and business cards. With that I’d dived into the deep end and have spent the last decade and a half swimming my way into the best career I could have dreamed of.
In those years since, I became an expert in the art of ceremony design with a specialized focus on weddings. I’ve been a certified Marriage Celebrant since 2010.
I’m wildly passionate about helping each couple tell their unique love story through their ceremony, representing their beliefs and what marriage means to them, and creating unique elements that both they and their loved ones really enjoy.
I feel privileged to have officiated for nearly 200 couples. Standing at the altar is such an honor, but it’s also the best view in the house, because you get to be up close and personal with the couple, while also seeing all of their loved one’s faces filled with joy and expectation for this couple’s marriage.
Naturally, I’d love to marry every couple! The joyful feedback from guests and couples always includes that they didn’t realize weddings could be so special and meaningful. But the inspiration for creating this online training didn’t come from the countless happy couples I’ve married. Rather it came from other vendors and their horror stories that started coming up as more and more people asked loved ones and friends to be their officiants.

Some couples ask a loved one to officiate in order to save money, others because they have someone they truly wish to stand at their altar and share the moment with them. But - either way - the Officiant is a vendor role just like the DJ or Florist. And they have professional responsibilities that rookies just don’t know about. So without proper support, most ceremonies end up being a toast with vows and rings rather than a ceremony where something has changed for the couple (mentally and emotionally) from beginning to end.
